During the game Fabius Fabullus, the Legate of Legio V, did his duty as a faithful son of Rome and wrote to his parents regularly enclosing money for them. After the sack of Rome a few of his letters were found on the floor of the ruined Senate house. The fate of his parents is unknown.

I am well and we are being paid, but not, according to what I am being told, by Rome. The local governors are reported to be paying for the legions out of their own pockets. This means that the legions are loyal, but not necessarily to Rome, or the Senate.

I have heard there is much turmoil in Rome & write in the hope of news of yourselves. If, the gods forfend, Rome is truely in danger from the plebian mob, perhaps you should seek safety here in Germania Inferior. For myself, we have defeated the Germani, & the border zone is now quiet.
I enclose money for you to use to protect yourself, flee Rome, or whatever else you feel is appropriate.
