Welcome to James Kemp's Wiki
This is a collaborative web platform that allows people to edit1) the web pages to provide additional content for some of the stories I have written and the roleplaying games that I am involved in, whether as a player or GM.
There are several namespaces operating slightly different wiki subjects. These are, in no particular order:
- Skyss - Story Background - a fantasy novel I wrote for NaNoWriMo 2016.
- Perfects - background for the near future story and some police roleplaying that I ran in that universe
- Theocracy of Daprav - A D&D campaign that I ran with Glasgow University Games Society around 2002-3.
- Jim Wallman's Universe - a roleplaying by e-mail campaign that I play in, this is an unofficial wiki and none of it is canon unless Jim says it is.
- Interstellar Freelance Unlimited - subset of the Universe pages covering the activities of a mercenary company that we are currently roleplaying every Full Moon.
- Earth Imperium pages. These cover the activities of the Government of the Solar republic (aka Earth Empire) in Jim's Humanity Will Prevail campaign, including the Earth Imperium News Items.
- Free Worlds Alliance - covering the activities of another emerging polity in the Humanity Will Prevail campaign. Mostly contributed by Eric Moroney.
- Universe Background - page collecting the various bits of background info that have come up in various e-mail discussions for the campaigns set in Jim Wallman's Universe.
- Master map of the Universe (6Mb PDF, as at 3212).
- Delta Green - some roleplaying campaigns about horror and conspiracy. The main one was set in Berlin in 1953.
- Free games rules - a collection of free rules for wargames and other sorts of face to face games that I have designed or run.
- Wargames rules - I'm not just a player of games, I also do rules for them from time to time as well as one-off games. A primary outlet for this is through Chestnut Lodge Wargames Group.
- Other free rules - at the moment just those for the 1689 (Orange or Lemon? and Bonnie Dundee, respectively about the debates in the Scots Parliament and then the military campaign of Viscount Dundee during 1689) and The Other Side of the COIN (about what makes people become insurgents). All games that I have have produced for Chestnut Lodge Wargames Group.
- Background for a near future universe where I have written some fiction and also run some roleplaying games in.

T75 - SRE to Withdraw from Treaty of Old London

The Deputy First Minister announced today in the Senate that the Solar Republic and Earth Empire will withdraw from the Treaty of Old London with effect from 3208.400.
ToOL Undermined
It is with great regret that the Solar Republic and Empire is announcing its intention to unilaterally suspend its signatory status of the Treaty of Old London as at the end of 3208. This treaty has become undermined by those signatories who can no longer be trusted to value it for its contribution to the common defence of Humanity against the Exterminators. Instead these polities have sought to regard it as a forum for grand-standing and show-casing.
IEN Continues to Protect Humanity
Earth intends to continue to contribute military forces to the four CHFs at the level proposed by the treaty and to establish MOUs with the local Fleet commanders for the full sharing of all relevant intelligence and the concerted use of force against all external threats against any human systems.
Earth will be withdrawing its contribution from the scouting fleets which it no longer considers to be of significant benefit.
Observer Status at Summits
Earth hopes to continue to send observers to the ToOL Summits, and Liaison Officers to the JAC HQs and to the Grand Strategic Council (as per other non-signatories, and the MDF. Earth will continue to review its position on the basis of these observations and hopes that at some point in the near future the Treaty will again resume its originally intended role.
I have invited Ambassadors of all other signatories to the Foreign Office to discuss the details of this announcement if they so wish.

T75 - Senator Rathbone Denounces Shattered Ceasefire at Amoss

Senator Rathbone today denounced the betrayal of trust by both the Sirians and the Venerians who callously repudiated agreements on Amoss to promote their own agenda and commit atrocities against the free people of Amoss who only wanted to determine their own government.
Deputy First Minister's Speech
Fellow Senators and members of the Imperium. The news yesterday regarding Sirian activities in the Amoss system has been in the hands of the officials for several days. I stand here to denounce those actions in their entirety. The deal which had been brokered between our First Minister and President Potato, which underpinned the withdrawal of the Imperial Fleets in search of a diplomatic solution, has been shattered by this hypocrisy and deceit. Our efforts at diplomatic action have been followed somewhat predictably by the invading jackboot of the Sirian armed forces.
RNVN Inaction
It is only rhetorically that I can ask what actions were taken by the much vaunted peacekeeping forces of the RNVN which appear to have simply stepped aside and followed the partisan approach to this situation which has been the hallmark of their role to date. It is just possible that the arrival of a GFAN Fleet may yet result in positive peace-enforcement by the joint-force, but it is already absolutely clear that the blood of many thousands of Amossians is now on Venerian hands as much as on Sirian ones.
Sirian Hypocrisy
It is ironic that this invasion and bloodletting has been by the self-same Sirian government that has for over a decade been pontificating about the values of independence and freedom of choice, and constantly criticised the Imperium for each and every intervention (whether it to be to destroy pirates or maniacs threatening civilians with nuclear weapons). Such bitter irony that they are now suppressing with untrammelled brutality a freely elected administration that just happens to disagree with them. This hypocrisy demonstrates the degree to which this Sirian regime is prepared to sink to remain in power.
Venerian betrayal
The utter failure of the RNVN to stop this invasion, or even to attempt to do so means that the Venerians are simply underwriting such brutal acts. Not because they agree with them. No, let us be clear of that fact. The Venerians are not siding with the Sirians - they are siding against us. And this brings into stark view the policies of the new Venerian regime, with which we can now clearly no longer conduct the diplomacy of trust. All trust has now evaporated, and only by supreme diplomatic efforts will we be able to find a way to again trust the word of any Venerian in this regime.
[Standing ovation from about three quarters of the Senate. Subdued, polite yet nervous applause from the rest]

Yehudi Sharan
A notorious Xyonist pirate, formerly a Marine. Played by James Kemp in the 'Hawks of the Stars' Full Moon campaign.
Current Position
Last reported by the INN as captured on 3207.240 by the Xyonist Navy after a failed assault on the mining orbital Base-F located in Hobbes, Q1. His subsequent fate is not known.
Biographical Details
Yehudi was born to an old Jewish family on an orbital in the Masada system in 3172.
His early years were unremarkable other than a good level of academic achievement combined with a passion for sports. This lead to his joining the Cadet Defence Force at the age of 13. He quickly became passionate about being a Cadet and lived only for the zero-G simulations the Cadets ran for regular attenders.

Career History
Instead of waiting for his call-up at 18 for compulsory service Yehudi volunteered for the Marines at 17. He passed out as top cadet in his intake on the GF basic training. On completion of Ground Force Training he was posted to the Air Assault Battalion pending psychological evaluation and a transfer to the Xyonist Marine Corps.
During this time he was a passenger on a shuttle that crashed. He survived with minor injuries and carried an unconscious comrade to safety before going back to see who else he could rescue from the wreckage. He was given a Commander's Special Commendation for his coolness in adversity. This also tipped the balance in his entry to the XMC as his psych evaluation had shown him to be a thrill seeker and borderline in suitability for space duty.
On 3190. he transferred to the Marine Corps. He was better at the active parts of the course than the routine elements, although he wasn't top he was in the top third and therefore eligible for the NCO cadre once he'd got some combat experience.
Following normal policy he was posted outside his home quadrant to Q8 on board a DDI . During his 480 days on board the DDI he was involved in two combat missions against pirates, both of which involved marine action (all robots disabled) to finish it off. He was wounded in the second action and transferred to a base hospital in the Quadrant Capital where he spent 93 days recovering. After his release from hospital he was sent on an NCO cadre having applied for it during his time on board ship.
Initially the NCO cadre went well, Sharan was in the top five on his course when it came to the live fire exercise at the half-way point. The exercise was a disaster. Sharan was commanding the platoon (it is normal on the NCO Cadre for the candidates to fill all the command appointments) when a large group of robots was reported on the outer deck of the ship they were assaulting. Sharan ordered his entire platoon to engage with grenades. This was incredibly effective (over 20 grenades were launched). However at the rear of the robots that were spotted were two Directing Staff and a squad of NCO candidates. One of the DS and four candidates were taken down by the grenades, two of them dead, including one of the DS.
The Board of Inquiry found that Sharan had been negligent, but that so also had the DS who hadn’t checked that the platoon were all on the same IFF code, especially since this was a live fire exercise. Sharan was administratively discharged.
Since being kicked out of the XMC for being over zealous Yehudi has wandered around eventually settling in Freeport where he works as a Comms Tech in the local space traffic control centre. He's also a part-time Marine and a bit of a gun nut.
Sometime after 3192 he joined the crew of a pirate ship, his exact exploits are unknown except that around 3200 he set up with some others as the joint owner of a pirate vessel.
Other Information
Honesty and Integrity are words that Yehudi only has a loose grip of the meaning of. He has indulged in the odd spot of breaking and entering (but has never been caught) and knows where he can fence stuff for a good profit. He also sells information to those that are willing to pay.

T75 - First Citizen Welcomes Digger and Z179 to Empire

It is with great pleasure that Earth welcomes the applications of the Digger and Z179 in Quadrant 8 for membership of the Solar Republic and Empire.
Umbrella of Imperial Protection
Final signatures of membership and administrative deals will be completed at the Colonial Offices in Q8 - with an official banquet each on Earth early in 3209.
After the official signatures have been blotted in Q8 the appropriate levels of Star Guard protection will be deployed to these systems together with military training and advisory packages for their ground forces and regular visits by the Fleet.
In addition financial, cultural and many other support packages will be provided in parallel. We hope that these systems will continue to prosper and grow under the umbrella of Imperial protection.
