T75 - Boldly Go Mission Report

Dateline 3208.301

The Imperial Secretariat today published full details of the findings from Operation Boldly Go. The mission, which took almost five years, found evidence of an active and technologically advanced alien civilisation.

Background

Operation Boldly Go was a pan-human operation to explore the centre of the universe and in particular to find the source of some transmissions detected on an earlier journey in that direction. The joint mission to investigate possible alien transmissions originating some some 2HY (around 2,500 lightyears) away was despatched on new years day 3203.

Findings

In total 21 populated systems were discovered and investigated, all with apparently the same civilisation (or at least off-shoots of the same original civilisation).

The aliens (or the equipment) found at each world was pretty much identical, though there appear to be minor visual differences between individuals. From observations it was found that the planets have very few obvious settlements like cities - but they do have industry on what appears to be a fairly small scale. Of course this might also be large scale industry using technologies we do not understand and with a tiny environmental footprint.

The aliens have some sort of burnless or gravitic interplanetary drive system unknown to us. This makes their ships nearly completely undetectable by human technology. Their ships are of all sizes and their interstellar ships are huge - and capable of landing on a planet using whatever exotic drive system they use.

The aliens have some sort of symbolic language that might be translatable - our teams are working on it.

T74 - Termination of Strategic Arms Limitation Treaty

dateline 3208.298

The First Minister today told the Senate that the Empire would not have its security constrained by artificial limits and the Empire would therefore withdraw from the Strategic Arms Limitation Treaty with immediate effect. The other signatories have been notified.

Notification of other signatories

To:

President Anton Dec, MAFC
President Alphie Potato, GFA
President Andrei Kudriavy, RNV

CC:

Deputy First Minister
First Space Lord

Date: 3208.296

Gentlemen,

The Empire will be withdrawing from the provisions of SALT with immediate effect. In practice we do not expect to be in breach of the current limits under current build plans.

On coming into office I initiated a thorough defence review and I do not intend the security of the Empire or Humanity to have to be bound by artificial limits. It will be necessary to build significant numbers of vessels to take offensive action against the HEBs.

Additionally it is clear that there is no wish on the part of either the RNV or MAFC to enter into a non-aggression agreement with the Empire. However I remain ready to agree a mutual non-aggression treaty with any polity, regardless of size, at any time.

T74 Q0 - GFA President Brokers IEN Agreement to Withdrawal From Amoss

dateline Sol 3208.260

President Alphie Potato and the First Minister Danso Ashanti have had fruitful discussions on a range of issues during the GFA President's visit to Earth and his tour of the Solar System. Principally amongst these discussions was the crisis in Q6.

Alphie's assurances

Over two days of private discussions President Potato used all his charms on the First Minister and persuaded him that the GFA Navy could successfully hold the military blockade at Amoss where the Venerians had failed. The First Minister agreed that given the personal assurances of President Potato he would give the orders for the IEN in Q6 to vacate the Amoss M25.

On being asked at the press conference on Old Mars about the rumours that there had been leaks by the Admiralty that the GFA had threatened to fire on IEN vessels the First Minister said “I don't believe a word of it, some people would like to see Alphie and me fall out, they're just jealous of the special relationship between the people of Earth and the GFA”.

NOTES FOR EDITORS 1. The First Minister had a tonne of chocolate mousse and a jacuzzi specially installed on his family estate in West Africa for the GFA President's visit.

2. While visiting the First Minister the GFA President was presented with a golden stool as commemoration of his visit. Historically chiefs from this part of Africa used to sit on special stools and the paramount chief of the nation had a special golden stool.
